Ustad Zakir Hussain, world-renowned tabla virtuoso and Grammy Award-winning percussionist, is a proud alumnus of St. Michael’s High School, Mahim. Born in Mumbai in 1951, he was a child prodigy who went on to revolutionize Indian classical and fusion music. The son of legendary tabla maestro Ustad Alla Rakha, Zakir Hussain has performed on global stages, collaborated with iconic musicians across genres, and brought the rhythms of India to the world. Honoured with the Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri, he remains a cultural ambassador of India. His journey from the classrooms of St. Michael’s to international acclaim continues to inspire generations of students.
